From me to me
There’s a small shop in our town centre that sells crystals and other “ magick “ things. Last week it featured in a short film on the town’s “ Spotted “ facebook page.
I’ve bought a few things in there, but in the film was something I didn’t even know existed.
It’s a pink amethyst geode.
Quite uncommon, and though the pink amethyst can be found in various places in South America, the geodes are only found in Patagonia.
Now Patagonia is one of the settings in my favourite novel, This thing of darkness. Written by Harry Thompson, it’s a fictionalised biography of Robert Fitzroy, who was captain of The Beagle on Charles Darwin’s historic expedition, and also the inventor of modern weather forecasting.
I had to go and look at it, thinking something so unusual could be very expensive, but to my delight it wasn’t, so I bought it. I particularly like the way part of it looks like a tiny flower.
I’m lucky to have found it, but if you believe in that kind of thing the saying is that you don’t find the crystal, the crystal finds you.
