Copper Delight

My sister and I deserted her hubby and mad spaniel Jak for the day and after an early start headed to Scotney Castle for our Plein Air painting day. Over 200 hundred artists were due to attend, yet it didn't seem over busy; many were probably seeking shade on what turned out to be a glorious warm sunny day. Certainly artists seem to appear out of nowhere for the end of day meet-up, group photo and display of works.  The scope of work and media used was wide with some very different interpretations of the site. There were some very talented artists! I managed two sketches, and was particularly pleased with the quick monotone sketch of a ruined door arch (extra).  My sister quickly reverted to some finely detailed graphite studies following her botanical arts studies.  We both had a really enjoyable day, and spoke to some really nice people, including the professional artist representing the major arts suppler hosting the day and the National Trust staff. They promised that this may become an annual event!

As we packed up to leave there was just time to indulge in some photography. I was pleased to spot some helenium in the flower beds which was just what I needed for BikerBear's Flower Friday challenge. Even better, they were being worked over by a small copper butterfly whose colours perfectly matched.

What a good day!
