Going private
Not really, but Jen needed an injection before heading off to Slovenia on Monday for a week of paddleboarding and she couldn't get it done at the GP surgery until the 19th, four days after she gets back. She'd picked up the prescription from the pharmacy but they couldn't do it in time either. So off we went to a private GP clinic in Sunningdale first thing this morning, having booked it yesterday afternoon. The reception wasn't too palatial but the cost was extortionate - it doesn’t take very long to give a routine injection - and shows why the NHS is so important as a cornerstone of our public services. The problem is that there are plenty of profiteering vultures circling a service that has been under huge financial and workload pressures since the 2010 coalition government, pressures which were then exacerbated by the Covid pandemic. But, as the wondrous Joni put it so eloquently, 'you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone'.
