Flower on a carrot
I've never had a carrot flower in the garden before, so I left it to fully bloom. This morning there were a total of 13 flowers coming at different stages. I took a few photos of the opened one from the side, the top, and underneath after I pulled the carrot. Didn't know what to expect, and the carrot was tiny. Obviously all the growth went into the flowers.
The bottom right is Queen Anne's Lace from my Aug. 8 blip. It's called wild carrot "...because it is the ancestor of the cultivated carrot, and it has a taproot with a carrot-like smell and flavor. The scientific name for both is Daucus carota, with cultivated carrots being a subspecies of this wild plant."
I knew that it was called wild carrot and I googled to find out why. Interesting!
Thanks to Anni/BikerBear for hosting Flower Friday.
