All at sea ...?
Today has been another fairly relentless one, apart from the two separate half hours when I was irresistibly overcome by sleep ... and I almost fell asleep again after my morning tea as I was wakened in the night by a searing bout of colic and was wandering about in the dark looking for the Colpermin - I blame the sugar snap peas ... However, once up I was quite brisk, getting things cleared away and doing my Italian before the arrival of a friend for coffee followed by a discussion of the lectionary readings on which I'll be preaching next week. Back when we introduced this business of having Lay Preachers to cover Sundays on alternate weeks when the Rector was on Bute, we had regular meetings of all involved, so that the sermons of the new preachers evolved from the things we'd discussed. So today we spent a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours throwing ideas around - my visitor has at least some qualifications as a Lay Reader, which I have not - and now all I have to do it write a sermon. Hmmm.
By the time I sat down to lunch I knew I was already pretty tired, and an hour passed in a mix of trying to read and drifting to sleep over the print. Then there was a bit of a rush to get to the ferry to keep the hair appointment I made yesterday - and the disappointment of seeing the ferry leave as we arrived. The timetable is different at busy times, and I actually made it only a minute late as there was an extra boat on. The amazing dog in the only photo I took today was in the neighbouring car on the ferry coming home - he looked so august and interested that I couldn't resist taking his photo. What on earth is he anyway? He was enormous!
Enjoyed a glass of rather lovely wine as an apero this evening before one of Himself's excellent curries, and subsided as usual in front of the telly where I missed just about all of the News and whatever followed it. If anyone watches Sunday's forthcoming Great North Run, by the way, you may be interested to learn that our Rector is running in it (he's on holiday right now) under the hashtag #runningfortheloo - he's being sponsored in aid of the church loo fund. All go, really ...
