Punch up

This pair have had a disagreement for weeks, maybe years. You would think that one of them would have given up by now.  It seems very silly but we are convinced it’s the same trio, as two seem to be fighting for the attention of a third which is always close by.
 
Naturally we think it’s two males fighting over a female, but it could be two females fighting over a male, which would be more sad than silly.  About ten or fifteen years ago one of a couple got killed at the end of our road, and the bereaved pigeon immediately attached itself to another pair.  Such arguments then started.  We thought that trio must have passed on years back, but pigeons can live for fifteen or twenty years.  If it was two males then one would have surely given up and looked for another mate quite quickly, but if it was two females then there could be a close connection, eg if the two males had been siblings.
