Cat & Mouse
An appalling day weather-wise - we haven't had one like this for sometime - continual lashing and very windy. The Sheepshead hike for Christian aid took place this morning and I think they ventured out anyway. An open swim this afternoon with over 300 participants registered had to be cancelled. I had to nip to the post office and skidded to a halt, actually in their driveway, as I passed this and though of Admirer. Thanks for hosting 60Plus.
What an interesting discussion from yesterday's musing on pilgrimage - place, people, belief, connection, nature it all adds up to a potent brew.
It just so happens this article popped up in the Guardian today -God's Influencer and more interesting thoughts on saints and relics. If you haven't read the Well of St Nobody by Neil Jordan this is an interesting story about how a well can become meaningful - a bit like SpotsOfTime's St Sewer. I'm also drawn to the British Pilgrimage Trust whose main focus is on connection and mindfulness. They do some pretty interesting routes too, In Ireland we have a myriad of pilgrim routes many being recently re-opened and appreciated. But of course you can just head off on your own and take any route you fancy. I do just have to mention the magnificent Daphne Desiree Pochin Mould - archaeologist, geologist, photographer and pilot who had written the definitive book on Irish pilgrimage - scholarly but highly readable and with humour. She pioneered aerial photography too.
And talking of the Irish Folklore Collection, it seems Kath Gordan's mother in law has an entry - we are tracking it down!
And there's a new blog . Sorry about all the links today!
