Grass of Parnassus

A strange name for this pretty flower as it is certainly not a grass. I know I am on good habitat when I see this blooming.

I tidied up the poly tunnel this morning, things are starting to die back.

In the afternoon  hubby and I went to do some volunteer work at a local estate. It felt strange to be there with a volunteer hat on rather than my work hat. We were looking for Marsh fritillary butterfly caterpillar webs, quite a few found so that was good. These caterpillars spin webs to protect themselves in the winter, a bit like spider webs, which they live inside. It's a great way of monitoring the population. see extra.

A very sociable afternoon.. Lots of Grass of Parnassus in the habitat we were looking at.
