An Unexpected Day
Today has been unexpectedly cultural. Started off at an exhibition about bees with Natalie. It was beautifully curated, interactive and immersive. The main is part of an installation about how wild flower meadows support bees. The light and reflections were beautiful and each glass block had a different wildflower laser engraved inside it (see extras one and two).
While we were there some of the book group crew suggested meeting for lunch and then some of us went on to the western approaches museum which was an operations base for coordinating the defence of the Atlantic front during the Second World War. Many of the rooms are as they were left at the end of the war. The final extra is of the operating control room. It is hard to comprehend how so much information was processed in an analogue world. There was lots that made us all reflect on the role of women and how society defined what what a ‘good woman’ is and how she should behave and what she should do. Also they had to do everything in shoes with heels!
The day finished at the cinema watching The Roses. I am now very tired but has been good to be with people and engaging in the world.
