Coventry

Well today was supposed to be a day at Warwick Castle, but after a busy weekend it ended up as a shopping and sight-seeing trip with the kids back to Coventry.

Don't any of you dare laugh, as it's a great city with such a rich history and one of my fave cities.

Having spent a king's ransom on school uniforms, shoes, trainers, bags, coats etc etc etc, we had a peek round medieval Coventry (the bits that weren't bombed in WW2.) I could go on and on but in a nutshell we visited St Mary's Guildhall (where Mary Queen of Scots was held) and where Henry VI moved the Royal Court to in 15something-or-other. Met a historian who has a photo my Grandma's cousin selling Newspapers about 80 years ago! He's going to send it to me, so will blip it in due course.

Both Cathedrals, new and bombed ruins, the gaol, Lady Godiva (Leofric's wife who rode naked through the streets of Coventry to shame him) and Peeping Tom, stealing a quick peek of her on the hour at the clock tower.

A great day. And so worth a visit.
