Neville Arms

This is the coat of arms of Bishop Robert Neville, who built this exchequer building in Durham in the fifteenth century. What looks to me like a sea monster is actually a bull that has lost his horns.

It is part of the world heritage site including Durham Cathedral. (I was a student here long ago, but I don't recall paying any attention to the history at the time.)

We were here to spend a fascinating afternoon at the Lindisfarne Gospels exhibition in Durham. My daughter-in-law is a guide in the exhibition.
