I know, I know, I know

If anyone had asked you,
just a few days ago,
how it was going,
you’d have said swimmingly.
‘It’s going swimmingly.’

But tides turn. Currents change.
And, although they say
there are plenty more fish
in the sea,
some of them don’t wish
to be caught. Well, not just yet.

Not so long ago,
I know, I know, I know,
you were going with the flow.
Drifting along very nicely,
thank you very much.

But currents change. Tides turn.
I know this. You know this.

We swim. We sink. We drown.
We clutch at straws. We rise, again,
to the surface. We’re shaken,
and in pain, but refuse,
we bloody well refuse, to drown.

I know. You know. We all know.

Been there, done that
