Creativity in Córdoba

Went to Córdoba - once the greatest city in Al-Andalus - for D's birthday treat.

The highlight has to be the mosque/cathedral. The Moors destroyed the Roman Christian sanctuary and began this incredible mosque in 785 - acres of arches made from alternating red brick and creamy stone (though the last, poorer, caliph painted the red on). Then the Reyes Católicos came in 1236 and ordered a cathedral built right in the middle of the mosque.

Can't decide whether I'm more impressed with the tremendous creativity shown, or saddened by the constant squabbling displayed...
