Whitworth Art Gallery...

The Whitworth Art Gallery on Oxford Road, Manchester celebrates its temporary closure for refurbishment with a weekend of interactive art, live music and performances. The £15 million development will transform the 120 year old gallery with two new wings and extensive refurbishment of the current space. The new look gallery will re-open in Summer 2014 and will be more in-tune and have direct links with the surrounding Whitworth Park. In 2003 the Gallery made international headlines for all the wrong reasons when three paintings were stolen. The works by Van Gogh, Picasso and Gauguin valued at £4m were found the next day behind a public toilet.
