Elgin architecture

The former Lido cafe now an excellent French restaurant, however the interest lies in the symbols decorating the 1st floor they are Fasces which is a symbol used by fascists in Italy as a key symbol and provides the etymology of the word "Fascist" .
I cannot confirm this but a previous owner of the building was alleged to be a follower of Benito Mussolini.True or false , its an interesting addition to the building. The symbol does turn up in a whole range of belief and political systems in France, the USA some Trade Unions as it symbolises authority or unity , but its Italian connection may point to the more unsavoury connection . if anyone out there in Blipland can shed some light on the building.
