Antony Gormley Statues, Formby

With a bit of spare time today, I took a run over to Formby beach, near Liverpool - and the amazing statues by Antony Gormley that reside on the beach!

There are 100 in total, all casts of Antony himself, and all on metre deep piles in the sand. They are therefore subject to the tides - so always check the times before venturing out, as it comes in pretty quickly! At high tide, you won't even know you are there!

In my opinion, its best to park next to the Coastguard building (free) and walk out from there - the statues go out a kilometre into the sea, and are about 3 kilometres of beach in length! You can always find one or two with no one else around (or so I have done anyway!).

If you get the light right, then it can be truly worth the effort, as can some macro work as the statues have been in place now about 7 years I think, so are being reclaimed by the sea! Some of the "attachments" make interesting photos in their own right.

Enough waffle, have a look on Google for more info, antony gormley another place is the name!
