Fallin and its Miners

My childhood life was and current business activity is in the village of Fallin just a few miles to the south east of Stirling.

Mention Fallin to anyone in the Stirling area and on most occasions the first thing they will think of is Miners and the old Polmaise Colliery.

The lifeblood of several generations of men from the village, the colliery was the working heartbeat of the village. Sadly like so many other collieries in Scotland it closed as part of the Margaret Thatcher era with Fallin playing a frontline role in the Miners Strike.

Back then the "Fallin Bing" was nearly three times the size of what it is today and the former colliery area, once thriving with miners is now home to wildlife, flora, bikers and dog walkers.

Today's photo is part of the memorial garden which is situated around the same position as the front entrance gates to the old colliery.

Stirling's history is long and varied and Fallin has certianly played it's part in its most recent history.
