'Support is our sport'

I like this line from Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, and it's well-you-would-wouldn't-you ad placement in the attention-grabbing, populous-grabbing Central Station. 'Support your sport' is a nice bit of tactical thinking to sell tickets in a strategic comms plan which has gone from 'let's win the games' and will no doubt end with 'let's win some medals.

There's a nod and a wink throughout the city to Glasgow's chequered, ok we're grown up so some would say, frankly dodgy and shameful past as slave traders and land and riches plunderer as part of said Commonwealth. The very word is pretty as common wealth, a socialist utopia, but it for sure was a smart bit of spin, as the wealth was uncommonly spread. I'm putting all this out there as I think the city still has to have its truth and reconciliation for a past that murdered minorities and a present that is in parts impoverished, in others surviving and in gentile others, positively pretty.

Meanwhile back at the point. Where will you be when the city is an arena, we're asked. Me? Tweeting, Blipping and wryly observing, all the while coming to terms with what, despite a brutal honesty that you get in these parts, (for all its faults, I love it still) is a tremendous boost for the east-end, the city and the nation. We could say that support is our sport cos we're a wee bit rubbish at the actual sport thing, but in grander terms, as acquisition strategy for citizens on seats, it is for sure a nice and simple line.
