Cloister at the Cloisters, NYC

We're at the Cloisters, which is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in upper Manhattan. It's built in medieval style, and houses selected choice objects from the Met's medieval collections. This is the Cuxa cloister, reconstructed with parts of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa at the foot of the Pyrenees in southwestern France. In this image, essentially only the capitals (at the top of the columns) are original, but the entire structure neverthe less gives a wonderfully authentic impression.

We had not been to the Cloisters for several years (even though we pass close by it every time we drive to and from Manhattan), and it was truly marvelous to experience it again.
