slightly away from some of it

It is not often that I find any reason to agree with anyone wearing camouflage gear but this pair certainly had the right idea by fleeing ground level and sitting half-way up the circum-Crags path to escape the hideous noises being made by their colleagues, a few quasi-military bands, various sets of baton-twirling people or their international equivalents, two PA systems blaring out (mostly) shiteypop (except for the brief excerpt of She Caught the Katy) and a trailer featuring incredibly bad singing of popularish songs, attended by a flock of muscular youths on roller skates around the roundabout at the top end of Queen's Drive when I arrived hoping for a nice peaceful scamper around the hill. Determined to make use of the morning I went round the crags anyway where the noise was slightly below the pain threshold and the cacophonous effect of several competing sound sources highlighted the unpleasance of such things, especially those with tasselled hats and silly shiny boots.

Unfortunately the other end of the path was just as bad; less military bands at the time I reached it but lots and lots and lots of people, some of whom were scrambling up the rocks along the path who really shouldn't have attempted anything as energetic with the shoes they were wearing for the task. I hoped for immediate and plentiful rain but it just got a little bit muggier; hopefully the unpleasant sight of me steaming past glowering and sweating will make them think twice before again deciding to passively support a large waste of effort and money by their attendance of the event. The other side of the Crags was slightly quieter, though at some point I had to cross the path again to get back to the town-side to meet up with Nicky for a slower wander. Town definitely seems busier than at similar times in most recent previous years which have always seemed a bit quieter compared to less recent previous years. Lots of police sirens, too; a fuzzcar stopped suddenly outside the coffee shop we were in after which its inhabitants scurried past on foot, though they returned without a handcuffed miscreant in tow.
