To Have an "R" in the Month

There was some expression about refraining from the eating of shellfish if there was an "R" in the month. What does one do about fingerposts?

Then of course there was the line from the Two Ronnies comedy sketch: "Have you got any hose?"

The sign gives directions to a Civil War era earthwork fortress. I am having great difficulty in getting a meaningful photograph of it.
