Sunflower

This is the same sunflower that I blipped on 31 August. It's fully open and looking a bit more ragged now. This afternoon it was surrounded by a flight of Small White Butterflies, two of which you can see here. It looks like some caterpillars have been eating the leaves as well. The field was also alive with Wood Pigeons, and a charm of small finches, scavenging for the oil seed rape seeds among the stubble.

We finished the harvest well after midnight on one of those hot evenings last week. Only the last two wheat fields to be harvested have not yet been cultivated and drilled - a very quick turnaround this year as the harvest was late. In fact the rape for next year's harvest is already starting to germinate!
