St.Anthony's Fire Starter

Found this near EK today. Grasses infected with the fungus Claviceps purpurea which causes the seed to become full of fungus and form a dark sclerotium (the sticky out bits). Contains hallucinogenic derivatives of LSD and gives a variety of horrid symptoms if eaten, including gangrene. Some folk culture the fungus and synthesize drugs but it really would need an organic chem lab, a degree in pharmacology/organic chemistry and an MSc in insanity to mess with it.
Monks of St.Anthony's apparently treated some of the symptoms of ergotism by inducing heat in the limbs with herbal rubs.
