Limbs creaking a bit
in that celebratory pose?

I expect you’re weary now?
Understandable. That’s the way it goes
when you’ve been around so long.

Too long? It feels like it,
some days. You search for ways
to recreate the excitement, the fun,
the thrill that you once felt
but you’re beginning to think
it can’t be done?

And the forest is getting crowded,
is it not? Hard to see the wood
for the trees would you say?

You groan. You growl,
as well you might,
you gnarled old thing,
but, accept it, your bark
is worse than your bite.

You’ll be back, you know you will,
even when you say you’ve gone.

You’re not fooling anyone.
