In Yachats with Sue

Sue’s dad built a little cottage in Yachats, Oregon with his own hands in 1971. She and her seven siblings have maintained the cottage, and this week the family is celebrating her eldest brother’s birthday...and I get to join in!

Sue recently retired from teaching and is a member of the sangha (Buddhist community) I belong to, she practices Tai Chi, she maintains a large house and garden, she adores her two sons and their families and her grandchildren, she paints, she takes photographs, she writes poetry, she has a blog, and she teaches a course for parents whose children are taking classes at a Zen Center. We’ve been talking about our lives, our gratitude and wonder at this beautiful place and at what keeps on arising in our lives, our love of photography and watercolor, and questions she might ask the people in her course. I’m really interested in these questions. Others might try them on.

What moral principles do you want your children to learn? What moral principles are important to you? How do you express your spirit? How do you express your spirituality?

More pictures here.

I’m leaving comments off, because I only can check in when we go into town to a coffee house, but I’m happy to share Sue’s joyous energy and the questions.
