Sophie reads the runes

Not exactly! This is a Celtic cross, 13 feet tall and dating from the 10th century. It is engraved in the knotted patterns familiar from Irish manuscripts of the time. By tradition the first cuckoo of the year calls from the top. But the cuckoos have flown and Sophie too was soon to fly back to her native Hungary. A brief visit to the coast of Wales was an eye-opener for someone from a landlocked country and her love of old churches and graveyards was satisfied here at Nevern.
