Times Gone By (1931)

I know that I have mentioned before that 2013 marks the 150th anniversary of Robert College, which originally opened on 16th September 1863. The American College for Girls soon followed on its own nearby campus. In 1971 the two schools amalgamated, known as 'Robert College' and housed on the Arnavutkoy campus of ACG whilst the Robert College campus in Bebek became the Bosphorus University. There are still many links between RC and the university today - academic and social - including BURC beach - Bosphorus University Robert College.)

The 150th celebration exhibition, a fascinating collection of photographs and memorabilia that I saw in May is now being brought to the school campus to be exhibited in our Theatre foyer Gallery until the end of October. To make room all images and other art works normally displayed there are being taken down and temporarily stored. Some of those photographs show previous theatrical performances from students and staff of RC and ACG in times gone by. Today's photo is apparently, the cast of a musical called "Prunella" performed at ACG in 1931. I am very proud that the school has such a long history of performance.

Our hallways are a treasure trove of mementos but few things are more evocative than old original sepia toned photographs. I hope you like this blast from the past as much as I do. I love to look at their young faces and wonder what became of them. Were they happy? They certainly look happy in the photo - I hope life gave them what they were hoping for. Will future generations look at photographs of today's theatre performances and concerts with the same fascination for 'times gone by' ?
