Not poo

One of the almost bare chalk scrapes at the nature reserve is dotted with these gelatinous blobs after the recent spells of rain. It is not some form of animal poo, but an interesting type of terrestrial blue-green algae or cyanobacteria. I think it is in the family Rivularia, but no idea which species. It is so odd to see what look like little piles of seaweed in this very dry habitat at around 800 feet above sea level. I must find out more about it.
