Depression

Max is a very regular visitor to the WI Market. He's been coming to the Community Hall - ten o'clock sharp - every Thursday morning for years.

I think he must be the gloomiest pug I have ever come across.

And I'm not even lying.

The reason might be that every Thursday morning, ten o'clock sharp, Max gets as far as the Community Hall.

He even gets into the lobby.

And that's it. Not a step further. His lead is hooked to the wall and he balances there on his eggshaped bottom, next to containers labelled RETURNED PRESERVE JARS and OLD EGG BOXES, while the market goes on inside.

It's painful.

On one side of the door there are cakes and biscuits and scones and cheese straws and eggs and jams and pies and turnovers and ..

..on the other side Max sits depressed, a Peri at the gates of Paradise
