What's black and white and green all over?

I nearly stepped on this caterpillar-in-a-hurry this morning! It refused to stand still and be measured though it's approximately 7cm long. It was dashing along underneath the house I'm staying in in Brisbane, Australia.

There are so many caterpillars, moths and butterflies in Aus that identification is almost impossible: however I think this one's in the Arctiidae family, most of which exude poisonous chemicals; some are even able to emit a strange sound if they think they're under attack. I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and so didn't test these attributes out.

It's been a strange two days here, helping to pack a lifetime away for Fay's widower as he prepares to leave Australia. It's been good that there have been other friends here too, helping out with the tasks.

It felt odd at first, coming to stay back in this house which once was my rental home, then Fay's and to know that this is where she died. But the strangeness has eased to a feeling of gladness to be doing something practical for her even though she is gone from this planet.
