Sunset at Loch Gairloch

I'm a bit of a last minute packer (as in either the night before or in this case, the very morning we were going!!):-) A lesson learned (be more organised) though as I had bought a new pair of waterproof trousers and what did I leave behind.........?

So off we headed (after a wee detour in M&S for food for the journey as I let the eggs I put on to boil for egg mayonnaise sarnies boil dry) and arrived in Nairn around 2.30 to pick up the Campervan we were hiring for 6 days for a tour of the Western Highlands.

The sun was shining and as we travelled through Inverness and turned left the scenery got more and more stunning. The mountains at Torridon were truly magnificent in the early evening and as we turned a corner the view of the beginning of Loch Maree stretching into the distance was one of these views that is etched in your memory forever, yes it was that breathtaking.

We were heading to a campsite just outside Gairloch called Big Sand, because it is set in grassland just on the edge of a big sandy beach, and stopped a few miles before it at Loch Gairloch to give Breagha a run just as the sun was setting (and had no other picture taken that day). This is a place we had visited seven years ago and had spent a couple of hours on the beach at Big Sand, and had noticed the camp site then. Camp site was very very good, clean and excellent facilities.

What was noticeable after the sun had set was the amazing sight of the milky way in all its "no light pollution glory". What a sight!
