Being WildCardinal...

We Are Golden

(Thank-you all so much for getting Wednesday's shot to spotlight, and also to Blip Central for making it a photo of the week. Amazing!)

Started the day back in Canyonlands National Park, with a walk down Park Avenue. I could have spent all day there with the wonderful rock pillars and patterns on the ground... but we needed to move on to Landscape Arch. The widest of the arches in the park, and looking decidedly fragile after the last rock fall in '91. It's a shame you can't walk up behind it any more, though I can understand why.

Arrived in Monument Valley just in time for sunset. The sun dropped behind clouds just as it was setting, and I feared that we'd lost our chance. With a stroke of luck there was a break for a few minutes before the sun set and the landscape was bathed in a golden light - which the red colour of the monuments turned into a bright orange/red. We only got a couple of minutes before it was all over. We discovered that today was one of the few days where the shadow from the monument on the left falls completely within the middle monument, so extra special.

Throughout the evening there were lightening storms all around. Despite my best attempts I didn't manage to get any on camera. I hope there'll be another chance this week.

Continuing the song title theme... this one is a little tenuous, but about the best I could come up with at short notice. Sorry!
