Meet the Kelpies

Today was open day at the Falkirk Helix. MaggieD and I went over to inspect this new development as did what seemed like most of Falkirk and Grangemouth. Just as well the place is huge!
The Helix is an area of parkland carved out of an old area of waste ground between Falkirk and Grangemouth and it centres on a large pond (the lagoon) and the lawn which can host substantial outdoors events. Looming over the Forth & Clyde canal basin are these two huge sculptures, The Kelpies. (They are not yet quite complete but I think you can get the idea - two 100 foot high horses heads.)
Plenty of other things going on as well. Random arts events were dotted around the parklands and lots of stuff was happening round the lagoon. We saw a bloke with a very colourful macaw, plenty of human sized buzzy bees, a whole lot of chickens sitting on big bouncy eggs and other bizarre goings on as well.
Will we be back when it is fully open? Oh yes we will!
