Falkirk Flotilla

A bit surreal at points today, down at the opening of the Helix Park, part of the huge ongoing Helix project.

For a start, a woman shuffling slowly alongside Euan and I and a hundred others suddenly started belting out a song from The Lion King.Odd enough, but then a group further along the path began singing back at her in reply. Then this lot appeared from nowhere, dangled their paper boats into the pond off of fishing rods and started singing to the accompaniment of a distant bagpiper playing Wild Mountain Thyme. We then stopped off and sat on the beach eating shortbread and watched giant chickens bounce by on Space Hoppers.

Weird but brilliant.

The place was mobbed (not the best day to take the bikes along to try out the cycle routes; ended up pushing them mostly), thanks partly due to the weather being kind and it looks like it could well be the start of something of real interest to the communities around Falkirk and Grangemouth.

Well worth a visit and we'll be back regular to see it grow and develop, and when it looks and feels less like Sauchiehall Street.
