Travelling North past Gruinard Bay

Another beautiful morning - not too bad a sleep but there is no toilet in the campervan so what is one to do when needing to pee during the night??

After breakfast the loose stuff all secured and we drove north heading for Achiltibuie. This view of Gruinard Bay is at the start of the journey and it is overlooked by more majestic mountains. Had a wee pitstop for lunch at a viewpoint overlooking Corrieshalloch Gorge and had black pudding and sausage rolls with brown sauce and a brew. Is it my imagination or does it taste even better having been cooked in the van and eaten outdoors? Mmmmm.

The drive to Achiltibuie took us past Ullapool and again jaw dropping scenery with the Stac Pollaidh mountain dominating the rest of the mountain range. I was absolutely gasping for a decent coffee after 3 days without and sitting in the beer garden of the Summer Isles Hotel with a good one and home made shortbread overlooking the actual Summer Islands was another of these unforgettable moments.

Our camp site this time was the excellent Altandhu, a couple of miles along the road, again scenery to take the breath away. This camp site was also on the beach, just a small site but the facilities were first class. Our van overlooked the beach and the Summer Isles beyond that. We took a walk along the site of the sea to Little Dornie and sat on the rocks watching the boats bobbing in the sea enjoying the warm sunshine.

There was a hotel just up the path from the camp site and had a fantastic dinner of locally caught langoustines in garlic butter and then hot chocolate fudge cake. Best meal of the week for me:-)

What I like about the camp site is watching all the others going about their setting up of their tents and the comings and goings as we sit with our cuppa. Also, everyone we meet are so friendly and chatty, about where they have been, where they are going and where we have been and going. There are loads of older people who have been doing this for years and it was great hearing all the stories. I love this campervan adventure:-)
