Back in the Glen

This is a view that always pleases me. It is what I see when I crest the final part of the rise from Loch Striven on the road from Dunoon and have Glendaruel in front of me, with in particular that little patch of green which is sometimes even brighter and illuminated by a shaft of sunlight.

As a boy and young man I used to feel the same coming home to Troon when there was a first sight of the sea and the Heads of Ayr.

I suppose it is about familiarity , or that thing so well stated in four lines from Robert Frost's "The Death of the Hired Man".

“Home is the place where, when you have to go there
They have to take you in.”

“I should have called it
Something you somehow haven’t to deserve.”
