Honeybee Impostor

Drone fly, ‪Eristalis tenax‬, introduced to New Zealand from Europe. I can't imagine why, unless they mistook it for a honeybee. Drone flies buzz among the flowers collecting nectar in a similar fashion to the honeybees. I can easily spot them because they have a habit of pumping their abdomens up and down. This one is a female, though it isn't obvious in this shot. In another head-on shot of her there is a clear separation between the eyes. On males the eyes meet in the middle.
