Seriously?

Taken from the 150th exhibition in our Theatre Foyer Gallery, this declaration of intent from the president of RC, George Washburn, in C19th is, I hope, as relevant today as it was over a hundred years ago (although today I would want to throw in something about global citizenship!). I might add that my definition of 'the highest possible development of character' would include the strength and determination to stand up for what we believe to be morally and ethically right, including the protection and defense of those who cannot protect or defend themselves. The privilege and reward of education is, and must be, responsibility. What more important message could we as teachers have than to pass on this philosophy?
