FLUFFY FEATHER

This beautiful, fluffy feather was lying in the grass this morning. I don’t know what kind of bird it belonged to, but I’m sure it’s not quite as cozy without it. The thick, fluffy down on the lower third of this feather would be great for holding in the heat. (It's approximately 5 inches long.)

My blip opportunities were either the female cardinal at the feeder (again!) or this fluffy feather. I took many shots of the feather trying to show the detail in the various individual fibers in the down – rather than looking like a clump of cotton. The differentiation seems to show best with an added hint of color.
