A Collector of Oddities

I went out at lunchtime with the intention of photographing some of these lovely acorns and whilst choosing the most picturesque I also noticed these fab spangle galls.

These are caused by gall wasp eggs and at some point should detach from the leaf and drop to the ground, developing over winter to hatch out in spring.
