Soggy

We took the boys on a Walk this morning. Full wet weather gear: welly socks and wellyboots, jumpers and raincoats. It didn't rain but it had rained and the boys took great delight in squelching and bouncing through every muddy puddle and wading and jumping through every puddle puddle. Even when the puddles started joining together into miniature lakes. They need waders, not wellyboots. We found lots of things for our autumn nature basket, including bits of ash, alder, bramber, maple, sycamore, rowan, elder, ragwort, dock, apple, crabapple, and grassy seadheads. We met some friendly ponies who were a bit disappointed that our carrier bag didn't contain carrots or anything else for them. We spotted lots of different tracks in the mud and although Bean didn't recognise the doggy paw prints, he did recognise horses' hoof prints.

The Walk wore the boys out to such an extent that Bear screamed his way through lunch then collapsed gratefully into naptime, and Bean spent the rest of the day watching tv, too tired even to play with his toys. I escaped to the supermarket briefly while Bear slept, then spent another hour watching Octonauts with Bean while Bear snuggled up on me for the second half of his nap.

Mum and dad went out for the evening to some art exhibition private viewing thing, so I made chilli for tea (last time I found the chilli flakes, this time I though, I'll avoid those. So I found the cayenne instead. Hah) and eventually two well over-tired boys finally went to bed. Everyone is tired and tetchy and under the weather. Tough day.
