VW Combi Rally

What a great day, in the countryside with a bunch of friends who all have a combi - it doesn't get much better than this ...

See more combis here

We met at a wine producer's near Gaillac - it was a sight to see - 15 combis parked in a line against the buildings. We tasted ... I don't know how many excellent wines, from white to Perlé (slightly bubbly) to rosé to young and old reds, cloying sweet, vin moeulleux, full of the scent of hedgerow flowers - it was a great morning.

We then left in a convoy - all 15 combis into beautiful countryside of the Tarn département to St Sulpice Where we picnicked at a lake in the warm sunshine.

It was fabulous - we all got our camping tables and chairs out, joined them all together then shared all of our food and drink (local wines) with each other - there were lots of home-made pâtés, black puddings, quiche, saucisson, cakes and tarts - it was brilliant - à la bonne franquette!

After a long(isn) lunch we headed off to the centre of St Sulpice where the whole village was overtaken by a vintage and American motorcycle rally - that was good - I have never seen so many American vintage cars and Harleys in one place ... the style of the people was a little particular too ...

We were given pride of place - they had reserved the central reservation in the centre of the village for us combis ...

We spent some time looking at the characters that were there - I'm not keen on Harleys nor vintage American cars, but it was quite a spectacle - there was even a 1973 Ford Capri ... that was strange ...

We then left in a convoy of combis and American cars and Harleys into the countryside to Buzet sur Tarn where some of the combis (about 8 of them) are staying the night as there is a two day vintage car and motorcycle rally.

Buzet gave us a huge welcome - a châpiteau was set out and a bar for a meal this evening - we had to leave as Max (who you can see on the photos) has a lot of homework to do and is off on his travels tomorrow.

But what a thoroughly wonderful day, good food and drink, superb countryside and sites, good friends and combis

I hope your Saturday was good :)))))
