In the Hall of the Coal King

In the hallowed hall,
Gathered to worship relics,
Of King Coals Palace.

Today there was a unique (apart from tomorrow) opportunity to see inside the virtually derelict, but hopelessly iconic Battersea Power Station before it is redeveloped into swanky homes, offices , eateries etc.

Edit:
For those that don't know what I'm on about .... think Pink Floyd, Flying Pigs etc ...
Also, apparently it is the largest brick building in Europe and is now Grade I listed. It was famed for the art deco interior, but this is pretty much gone due to various "developers", one of whom wanted to turn it into a theme park and took the roof off ......makes you want to weep!

So my trusty blip friend, Miranda and I braved the queue of thousands and went to have a look. I have to say it was pretty awesome ... and what was also awesome was some of the camera equipment on display .... I'm sure there must have been other blippers there. Needless to say we took a gazillion photo's so it was quote hard to choose one. This one is of the canopy in the entrance where they had scale models and information etc, before going through to look at the main space..... lots of broken windows, iron girders and just hugeness. A cathedral to power, somehow going through this pristine portal enhanced the grandeur and sadness of it all.

After the power station we wandered along by the river to find a pub for lunch, and then wandered a bit more past the ghastly MI6 building and back towards Waterloo, grabbing a a cup of coffee on a boat/pub/restaurant on the way ...

A grand day out!
