Happy Birthday Moon...

was a book that my children loved when they were small..

Today was my eldest daughters birthday and we spent a very happy afternoon with her up in London. We took a late lunch/tea with us including a big chocolate cake..but we were told that she had been given 4 cakes already by friends at breakfast time so mine was the fifth. Having heard that.. hubby rushed out to the car to fetch it.. returning after a little while looking a little apologetic.. he had dropped it in the street while trying to lock the car!!! Oh dear.. well.. luckily it was well cling filmed so actually the cake didn't look too bad... considering!! the plate on the other hand was smashed to smithereens so it was a question of ensuring that no one got any shards of china in their serving. Well.. the compensation was that there were 4 other cakes for her to enjoy without fear.

On our drive home the moon appeared and I decided that tonight I would take my first ever shot of the moon.. so here it is.. and I am amazed at what looks like a huge crater on the terminator.. It almost looks like the mice have been nibbling at the cheese but having done a bit of research I have found that it is not actually a crater but a sea called Mare Crisium which is being cast into shadow by a ridge of mountains .

So here it is.. Happy Birthday Moon!!

(lots of room for improvement.. any tips gratefully received!)
