Northern Exposure

Lochinver Highland Games today.

It rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained... you get the idea.

After what felt like 40 days and 40 nights of damply watching big men in kilts throwing a variety of missiles around a soggy bit of grass, we saught refuge.

With trepidation and our fingers in our ears, we headed for the piping competition which had been moved to inside of the fishmarket to keep their chanters dry. Any port in a storm, as they say.

I really didn't expect to find this slightly surreal but incredible space.

The music was pretty impressive too... even if you're like me and can't tell your grace notes from your peobrach.
