Michaelmas farewell

It's coming up to Michaelmas Day at the end of the week and, sure enough. the Michaelmas Daisies are making a great show in the garden. Each flower (and there must be over 50) has its own small fly enjoying the nectar. Apparently, the act of giving Michaelmas Daisies symbolises saying farewell, just as Michaelmas Day is seen to say farewell to the productive growing year and welcome in the new cycle. Although it was relatively warm today, there is no mistaking the signs of autumn and for any entomologist it has to be the start of saying farewell until 2014.
