Lowry at the Tate

We took Gail's mum on her belated birthday present to Tate Britain to see 'Lowry and the Painting of Modern Life'. I had no idea Lowry's life spanned so much of the 20th century (b. 1887. d. 1976), and this exhibition succinctly depicts the gritty reality of everyday working class life in England's rapidly industrialised north. Lowry's unfussy naive style is honest, dark, unsentimental and enchanting. Definitely one not to miss.
