Hell Hath Frozen

My blood is still boiling.

I am from Wisconsin where football is football and soccer is soccer. Football isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle. On Sundays before big games you can go into churches and hear prayers devouted to the Packers, the Packers are referred to as "we", and of course we bleed Green and Gold. Here, in Wisconsin, football means the Green Bay Packers and at the center of it all was the football god, Brett Favre. Our nemisis is our neighbors, the Minnesota Vikings or the Vikqueens as we in Wisconsin like to refer to them. Our Brett retired 2 years ago after nearly 5 years of waffling and causing Wisconsin residents to turn blue from holding our breath. A few months later, he changed his mind and signed with another team. We could handle this, the team was across the country, in another conference, and we never played them. After a failure of a season, Brett retired again. A united sigh of relief could be heard throughout the state. But, it wasn't over.

A few months after the end of the season rumors started surfacing of talks between Brett and the Minnesota Vikings. Shock and disbelief. He couldn't possibly rip out the hearts of devouted Green and Gold fans. It was the ultimate betrayal. He should know better. A month or so later came another press conference where Brett confirmed he was staying retired. Thank God it was over. He couldn't go through with it....

Yesterday Hell froze over. Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings confirmed that Brett Favre, the ultimate Packer, would be the Minnesota Vikings 2009 starting quaterback $12 million dollars richer. Here I sit, still shocked, hurt, and personally offended, looking out the window imagining Brett Favre on his back crying in pain after a Packer defensive lineman drilled him into the ground during the teams' first meeting in October. Did I just see a pig fly by? No, it couldn't be...
