No chips

I don't think I'll be breaking the bank at Monte Carlo tonight. The casino is to photographers what Tombstone was to gunslingers. If you want to go in, you leave your camera in the cloakroom - too big an ask.

The conference went fine, didn't have much lunch or many canapes in the cocktail bit afterwards. Came back to the hotel and now have nowhere to go and I'm starving. Looking at room service and a hamburger (no chips) is €37. I can't thoil that. No way.

The thing is tomorrow I can have breakfast in the hotel and there's a breakfast press conference on a yacht. But I don't want double-breakfast. I want a single supper. The show starts tomorrow and there're all kinds of things happening during the week but I have to leave in the evening.

I met some interesting people today. One chap, Marek Landa, who I met at the bar, makes crystal chandeliers for superyachts and various buildings. He was really down to earth, a nice guy, and what wonderful things he makes. Apparently if you want fine glasswork on your boat he's the go-to guy.

Lots of meetings to get in tomorrow. Fingers crossed there'll be no complaints about the FT yachts and marinas report that's published in the morning. It won't please everyone. They never do.

It's a long time before breakfast..........
