The Way It's Done

Kids are regular motorbike passengers in Thailand. There are very few rules enforced regarding riding motorbikes. Although you are supposed to wear a helmet, few people actually do.

When children are very little (say from a few days old to 1 or 2 years) they are held by the passenger sitting behind the driver. (At least that's what we hope for. One time I did see the driver holding his maybe 9 month old daughter as he drove...eeek!)

When the child can sit stably by his self, he will be sandwiched behind the driver and the passenger, hugging the driver's back. If there isn't another passenger or there are two kids, small children usually stand between the driver's arms like this.
